What Does 4.5 Tog King Size Duvet Mean?

Tog

Tog is the abbreviation of thermal overall grade. It is the unit used to measure the thermal resistance of a unit area of a specific material so that you can compare how warm a type of material is compared to another. Tog is most commonly used for textile products like duvets, blankets and outdoor clothing. When we measure the thermal resistance with the help of this unit then it means that we are measuring the thermal insulation. The measurement of warmth of a duvet in the form of tog units is also called the duvet rating. A higher duvet rating means a higher tog value and therefore a warmer duvet.

The warmness, heaviness and the smoothness of the duvet not only depend upon the tog value but also on the type of filling material. Duvets filled with the natural materials often have higher ratings and thus have the better thermal properties than synthetic materials. Duvets which are filled with natural material are soft and comfortable. They are flexible and allow our skin to breathe easily.

Duvets are mostly available in the range from the 1.5 Tog to the 15 Tog. The duvets available in the tog of 4.5 and smaller are used in summer. Duvets with the range from 9.0 to 10.5 tog value are used in the autumn or spring season. Similarly the duvets with the tog value of 12 to 13.5 are used in winter as they are warmer.

There are two commonly used Tog values. One is 4.5 Tog, used in summer and the other is of 9.0 Tog for winter use.

The Tog value does not depend on the size of the duvet as it relates to the material.

If we divide them on the basis of size, then the following duvet types include:

  • Single – 135cm x 200cm
  • Double – 200cm x 200cm
  • King size – 225cm x 220cm
